Organizers of the just concluded 17th edition of the Lamu Cultural Festival are an unhappy lot after the headlining act Offside Trick went off script in one of their performances.
The organizers were left agitated when the Tanzanian group breached the cultural taste of the festival by dancing overly explicitly, leaving many embarrassed.
“We are equally disgusted and disappointed by what The Offside Trick group did,” one of the organizers said.
According to one of the attendees, “One of the women dancers, particularly irked the observers by letting her hair loose and showing too much skin.”
Speaking to journalist in Lamu, Coast Region Deputy Director for Kenya National Museums of Kenya (NMK) Mr. Athman Hussein condemned the performers saying that there was a need to vet and approve artists before allowing them to perform at such an important event.
“That was an embarrassing and regrettable incident.” Said Mr. Hussein
The night ended prematurely when the event organizers forced the dancers to leave the stage. This is despite the fact that other performers invited were yet to perform.
Coast Interfaith Council of Clerics chairman Sheikh Mohamed Abdulkadir said what the group did, was not only a breach of the cultural aspect, but also surpassed religious limits.
