French forward Antoine Griezmann has revealed he would never consider signing for Arsenal after the way he was treated by the north London club back in 2013.
Griezmann says that he was informed of Arsene Wenger’s interest in him via Arsenal scout Giles Grimandi while he was still at Real Sociedad only for arsenal to pull out of the deal at the last minute.
He was so keen on a move to play underneath the legendary Frenchman that he informed his agent to ignore other offers for him in the hope that a concrete bid from the Gunners would materialise.
He wrote in his new autobiography, Behind the Smile: “I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting.
“When there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me [and] to keep waiting.
“Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don’t like to be told something and for it not to happen.
“So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him ‘Forget it, after the blow they gave us'”.
Griezmann, who eventually signed for Ateltico Madrid, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few months after they missed out on signing him in the summer transfer window.
