Messi Argentina

Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi has said that it would have been crazy for his nation to fail to qualify for next year’s world cup in Russia.

The striker who is regarded by many as the greatest footballer of all time admitted that his side got nervous and worried after going behind against Ecuador just after four minutes.

“It was a relief because we were in a tough spot. We got ourselves into this mess. It was not easy to play here, a lot of things happen from my mind when the 0-1 came, but the group overcame the situation very well and was quick to take the lead,” he said.

Argentina went into Tuesday’s game against Ecuador likely needing a result to book their flight to Russia next summer, and Messi helped them overcome an early deficit to rally for victory, scoring a stunning hatrick  to ensure Argentina gets to Russia.  seal the win.

“Fortunately everything went well and we are into the World Cup, we are calm now after achieving the main goal — that is the most important thing. All this time that we were away from the press, the fans helped us to be closer,” he added.

Messi now heads back to Spain as he tries to help Barcelona stay on to of La Liga and continues the good run in the champions league.
